Coroner identifies young man killed in South Lake Drive single vehicle collision

Lexington, SC 09/13/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Sunday afternoon, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the young man who died as a result of injuries he sustained in a single vehicle accident earlier in the morning. According to Fisher and the SCHP, the crash happened in the 2300 block of South Lake Drive near Bluefield Road just after 3:00 a.m. on September 12, 2021.

Coroner Fisher said in her release that Charles Lamar Chestnut, 22, of Lexington was the person who died in the collision. She said he was driving a pickup truck, described by the SCHP as a 2005 Chevy Silverado, west on South Lake Drive (SC Hwy 6) toward Lexington when he apparently lost control, went off the left side of the roadway, and struck several trees before the truck overturned. Chestnut, who was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers had said earlier in the day that a juvenile in the vehicle with Chestnut, who was ejected during the collision, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

An investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol is ongoing.
