Coroner Margaret Fisher releases cause of death in case of inmate who died in detention center

Lexington, SC 06/25/2022 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released the autopsy results for and inmate who was found dead in an open pod at the Lexington County Detention Center on April 23, 2022. According to Coroner Fisher, inmate Charles Plumley was found to be unresponsive and pronounced dead at the jail.



Fisher said in a statement released Friday that Plumley’s death was due to an acute fentanyl intoxication. She has listed the manner of death as accidental in nature.


At the request of Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon requested that the SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigate this incident.
