Coroner provides details of crash that claimed the life of two-month-old Sunday afternoon

Lexington, SC 08/14/2023 (Paul Kirby_ - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released details of the Edmund Highway crash that killed a 2-month-old infant near Pelion on Sunday, August 13, 2023. According to Coroner Fisher, the crash occurred in the 6900 block of Edmund Hwy shortly after 9:00 P.M. on August 13, 2023. This is close to Jim Spence Road between the community of Edmund and the Town of Pelion.

Fisher said that a small SUV traveling westbound on Edmund Hwy toward Pelion was struck in the rear by a pick-up truck also traveling in that direction. The rear-end collision caused the SUV with two adults and the infant child in it to veer off the right side of the roadway. It then struck a tree and a power pole before overturning. Fisher said that at this point, she is not going to release the infant’s name as they work to notify all his family members. The baby was restrained in a car seat and was transported to an area hospital. There he was pronounced deceased due to the injuries he received in this crash. The two adults, who are the parents of the infant boy were transported to an area hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck was also transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s MAIT continues to investigate this incident as well as the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
