Lexington, SC 04/27/2021 - Town of Lexington Councilmember Ron Williams has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) Council on Youth, Education and Families for 2021.
He was appointed by NLC President and fellow Town of Lexington Councilmember Kathy Maness. In her letter of appointment, Maness said “Knowing of your deep commitment to these issues, I am confident that you (Ron Williams) will make valuable contributions to the work of the Council and the Youth, Education and Families (YEF) Institute.”
The Council oversees and supports work of the National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education and Families. This year, the Council will be co-chaired by Mayor Rosalynn Bliss, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Mayor Melvin Carter, of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Councilmember Tameika Isaac Devine, of Columbia, South Carolina, will serve as Board Representative.
The NLC Council conducted its first meeting on March 8 and will meet two additional times during 2021.
The Council is unique among NLC standing committees. In addition to local elected officials, national policy experts and youth leaders also serve as full and active members of the Council. The Council’s meetings, while relatively brief, are substantive, highly focused, and thought-provoking.
In addition to his appointment to the NLC Council, Councilmember Williams has been involved in community service most of his life and he enjoys volunteering with some of his favorite organizations which include: The Town of Lexington Elementary School’s School Improvement Council; Habitat for Humanity Board’s Advisory Committee; Boy Scouts of America for the past 20 years; Ezekiel Ministries Lexington Afterschool Advisory Team and as a member of Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church where he serves on the Vestry and other active committees.
