Deputies arrest man after he leads them on pursuit, crashes into patrol vehicle

Lexington, SC 08/29/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 21-year-old man and charged him with multiple crimes after he led them on a pursuit. According to Sheriff Jay Koon, Devon Ray Shealy has been charged with first-degree assault, four counts of failure to stop for blue lights, four counts of reckless driving, and one count of larceny.

Sheriff Koon said, “Deputies saw Shealy speeding and driving into oncoming lanes Wednesday afternoon, which led to an attempted stop on Goose Platter Road. Shealy was suspected in the theft of the truck he was driving after it was reported stolen out of Lexington County earlier this week.”

Shealy initiated a pursuit after failing to pull over. He eventually crashed into a patrol unit before deputies later ended the pursuit. Sheriff Koon continued by adding, “Later during the shift, deputies again saw Shealy driving recklessly and attempted another traffic stop. Shealy initiated a second pursuit and eventually bailed out of the truck as it was moving and ran away.”

Sheriff Koon said that deputies arrested Shealy after a short foot chase. He is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
