District Five teacher named to South Carolina Association of Physical Education and Sports board

Irmo, SC 12/27/2021 – School District Five physical education teacher, Amber Hege, has been elected as the Vice President-Elect of Physical Education on the 2021-2022 South Carolina Association of Physical Education and Sports (SCAPES) board.

“I am honored to represent Middle Level Physical Education and all students through SCAPES,” Hege said. “I look forward to working with everyone this year to promote health and wellness for all students.”

Hege was elected by her professional peers to the position for being an example of Physical Education excellence in supporting the physical well-being of our students, adults, and communities of South Carolina. This year, she will work with SCAPES leadership to provide the best comprehensive physical education and activities programs through professional growth opportunities, sharing best practices, and advocating legislation.

The South Carolina Association for Physical Education and Sports strives to implement and advocate the development of physical education, physical activity and physical fitness through high quality, research-based programs facilitated by competent, educated professionals. SCAPES delivers these programs equally to all citizens of South Carolina by promoting opportunities for professional development and participation in programs, projects and activities for its members.

Hege has been teaching Physical Education for twelve years. She earned her undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Winthrop University and her master's degree in kinesiology from A.T. Still University.

Chapin Middle School Interim Principal Stephanie Huckabee said, “Not only am I thankful for Coach Hege and what she does for our students each and every day at Chapin Middle School, but I'm excited that she is able to help lead other Physical Education professionals to impact students across our entire state.”
