District One's SAT scores top state, national average

Lexington, SC - Lexington County School District One announced Wednesday that the district has continued to outpace national and state averages on the SAT with a combined average score of 1051, according to scores released this week by the South Carolina Department of Education. The district’s combined average score of 1051 ranks them as the 7th highest district in the state when compared to other traditional public schools, charter schools, and even the Governor’s schools.

Lexington District One had 1,111 student take the test in 2020; a slight decrease from 2019 when 1,139 students took the assessment. The decrease likely resulted from COVID-19 interrupting testing dates in the spring.

The nation and state saw a slight dip in total average SAT scores, as did Lexington District One. In 2019, the combined average score in District One was 1067, 16 points higher than this year.

The College Board assessment includes evidence-based reading and writing as well as mathematics. The latest SAT results come from seniors who graduated in 2020.
