Lexington, SC 06/27/2021 - During its meeting on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Richelle M. Battles to professional learning coordinator, replacing Natalie Osborne, Ed.D., who was promoted to leadership development and continuous improvement director. Battles currently serves as assistant principal of Pleasant Hill Middle School.
Battles began her career in Lexington District One in 2010 as an English teacher at Lexington High School where she taught for three years. In 2013, she transferred to River Bluff High School. As a founding RBHS faculty member, she collaborated with teachers to plan and implement the English language arts curriculum, mentored new teachers and student-teachers conducting their internships, and sponsored the Naturalista Club.
In 2015, she was promoted to instructional coach at RBHS. In this role, she developed and led professional learning with teachers, coached teachers to improve student engagement and success, and supported teachers with lesson planning and resources.
Battles became assistant principal at Pleasant Hill Middle School in 2017. She managed the school’s master schedule and led the school’s implementation of Leader in Me. She also collaborated with the administrative team to develop the school’s work plan and facilitate professional learning to ensure the school achieved the goals laid out in the work plan.
She managed special education services, including Individualized Education Plans and 504 meetings, and served as an instructional leader for the mathematics, special education and related arts departments. Battles also handled student discipline, and coordinated PSAT and Star 360 testing.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English education from the University of South Carolina Aiken, as well as a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina. She is pursuing a Doctorate of Education in educational practice and innovation from the University of South Carolina.
Battles holds certification in secondary English as well as elementary and secondary administrator and supervisor. She also earned a gifted and talented endorsement. She is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
