Edmund, SC – 02/11/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The driver of a truck that was involved in a deadly crash that claimed the life of a Pelion teen has been charged with multiple crimes centered around driving while under the influence. The facts of the collision were released just after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021 by Corporal Matt Southerland of the SCHP.

According to Corporal Southerland, 15-year-old Dillan Alexander Roldan of Pelion was travelling with family members and friends in a vehicle that was driving east toward Swansea on SC Hwy 6. At approximately 7:18 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021 when the vehicle he was riding in was involved in a collision with two other vehicles.

One of the other vehicles, described by Corporal Southerland as a Toyota SUV, was also travelling toward Swansea when it was struck by a pickup truck being driven by Arcenio A. Perez-Maldonado. Perez-Maldonado’s pickup was travelling west toward Lexington on SC 6 near Edmund Hwy. when it crossed the center line and struck the Toyota SUV causing it to spin. The SUV then collided with the vehicle Roldan was riding in. The teen lived 5 days before he succumbed to his injuries at the local Trauma Center.

Corporal Southerland said that Perez-Maldonado was not injured in the collision. After the injured occupants from the other vehicles were treated at the scene, Perez-Maldonado was transported to and booked at the Lexington County Detention Center. He was charged with felony driving under the influence involving great bodily injuries, open container, and ABC violations. After Roldan passed on Wednesday, Perez-Maldonado was also charged with felony driving under the influence involving death.

As of Thursday, February 11, 2021, he was still being held at the county jail.
