Lexington, SC 06/29/2022 (Paul Kirby) – A earthquake estimated to be in the 3.3 magnitude range centered northeast of Columbia in the Elgin area shook Lexington County Wednesday afternoon. People who work at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Administration Building posted they had felt the shaking shortly before 3:00 p.m. on their social media accounts.
So far, the official data on this is still coming in however, there have been many such quakes in the Elgin area of the state over the past year. There was one recorded on June 26, 2022. Some of those were also felt as far away as Gaston, South Congaree, Lexington, and Irmo.
Although there are no reports of damage in Lexington County at this point, it is early in this event. We will try and ascertain more information and update as soon as possible.
