UPDATE: Edmund Highway reopened after vehicle vs. pedestrian collision early Monday morning

Edmund, SC (Paul Kirby) - A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Boiling Springs Road and Edmund Highway early Monday morning. The collision happened between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. near the Circle K that’s at that intersection.

Firefighters and EMS personnel from Lexington County's Department of Public Safety responded. They were on the scene quickly. Deputies with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and South Carolina state troopers also were dispatched and assisting.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. Monday, firefighters reported that all of Edmund Highway was closed due to the collision. The SCDPS was reporting that the road was still closed as late as 7:30 a.m. but as of 9:00 a.m. it was reportedly reopened. The pedestrian was transported by a Lexington County ambulance two Prisma Health’s Palmetto Richland campus in serious condition. That is the location of the Midlands area’s level one trauma center. A firefighter was driving the ambulance as it left the scene to allow all EMS personnel to concentrate on the patient’s care.
