Eight displaced by Thursday afternoon mobile home fire

West Columbia, SC 11/04/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Two adults and six children were displaced Thursday afternoon after the mobile home they lived in caught fire and burned. The fire was reported about 3:00 p.m. in the 1900 block of August Road near its intersection with Pineview Road.

When the first truck from the West Columbia Fire Department arrived on scene, that engine’s officer reported that smoke was coming from all sides of the home. That crew immediately went on the offensive attacking the fire with their water hoses. A second truck laid a supply line into the fire from a nearby hydrant. A short time later, more equipment and manpower from Lexington County arrived and those teams joined the fight. Within a short time, they extinguished the blaze.

The mobile home was damaged to the point that it is uninhabitable. The battalion chief from West Columbia had their dispatch notify the American Red Cross who will help the displaced family in the short term.
