Fairview, SC 08/04/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The members of the Fairview & Pelion Republican’s Group are hosting Lexington County Senator Katrina Shealy (Dist. 23) at their August meeting. Senator Shealy, who lives in the Red Bank area of the Lexington County with her husband Mr. Jimmy, has become a key leader and powerful advocate on many issues in our state.
Shealy was first elected to the SC Senate in 2013. Since that time, she has built a reputation as a tireless advocate for people who are often going through some of the toughest times in their lives. She’s been a driving force behind reforms at the SC Department of Juvenile Justice and the SC Department of Social Service. During her tenure, she has drastically improved the conditions of both children and families who are in the foster care or juvenile justice systems through a commonsense approach to reorganization and new and better management practices. With her, it’s not always about what’s best for the state in these agencies instead, she focuses on what’s best for children, families, and staff who work the frontlines every day.
Senator Shealy founded and is active in a charity appropriately called Katina’s Kids during her tenure at the SC State House. Katrina’s Kids helps fund activities like little league ball, piano or ballet lessons, summer camp tuitions, and other activities for foster children and their families. These beneficial activities are not paid for by the state’s foster care system and often, foster parents are not able to pay for these types of programs and activities out of pocket. They’ve also bought clothing, shoes, winter coats, toiletries, and other necessary items that may be needed by a child when emergency intakes make it necessary for them to enter the system with just the clothes they have on their backs
Shealy is an interesting and accomplished speaker that has been invited to address groups of Republicans and Republican women nationwide. She is a staunch conservative with the will and skills to fight for what she believes her constituents want and what’s right for the people of District 23 and South Carolina.
The August meeting will be held on Tuesday the 17th beginning at 7:00 p.m. It is being held at the Fairview Community Center, which is located at 2705 Fairview Road Leesville, SC. Although this street address for a GPS shows Leesville, that’s simply the mailing address. The center is actually 7 miles northwest of the Town of Pelion on US Hwy 178 (Fairview Road) between the Black Creek and Fairview Crossroads.
