Gaston, SC 01/12/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A family that included two adults and two children were displaced by a fire in the 4400 block of Hwy. 321 south near Gaston Thursday afternoon. The fire in the home was reported at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Firefighters arrived quickly and found smoke coming from the home. They entered and found the fire had started inside the living area of the home but had extended into an interior wall and upward toward the ceiling. They also encountered a woman who was suffering from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.
The crews quickly extinguished the blaze while EMS provided care for the woman who had been affected by the smoke. Even though the fire was put out quickly, the home was damaged to the point that the family couldn’t stay there overnight. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the family and a battalion chief from the fire service stayed on scene with them until the ARC was able to make their initial contact with the couple.
