Fatal collision claims the life of Gaston teen Sunday night
Gaston, SC 01/23/2023 (Paul Kirby) – One teen died Sunday night when the small SUV he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree on Pine Plain Road east of Gaston. According to Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell of the SC Highway Patrol, this collision occurred just after 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pine Plain and Frank Moore Roads.
According to Tidwell, a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV was travelling north on Pine Plain Road when the driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, lost control of the SUV. It dropped off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries he sustained in the collision.
According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, the victim of the collision was Jackson Ryan Mack, 18, of Gaston. Fisher said that Mack, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injries sustained in the collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
