Fatal collision disrupts traffic on I-26 at I-77 interchange Friday morning

Cayce, SC 10/15/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision has caused a major disruption of traffic on I-26 at the I-77 interchange Friday morning. The crash that happened shortly after 7:00 a.m. at about the 115 mm is being investigated by troopers with the SCHP’s MAIT Team.

According to the Cayce Department of Public Safety who has offciers assisting with the incident, at 8:00 a.m. Friday, all westbound I-26 traffic was being diverted onto I-77 north as the trooper’s investigation continued. At approximately 8:30 a.m., troopers on scene were preparing to reopen at least one lane travelling west toward West Columbia, Irmo, and Greenville.


No details regarding the collision are currently available. The those become available, the patrol will release that to the media. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher will release the name of the collision’s victim once her team has notified the next of kin.
