Fatal collision has South Lake Drive closed between Bethany Church and Bluefield

Red Bank, SC 09/12/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A collision that occurred at 3:03 a.m. Sunday morning has killed one person and sent a juvenile passenger of the same vehicle to an area hospital for treatment. According to Corporal Matt Sutherland of the SCHP, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was travelling west toward Lexington when it went off the road and struck two trees. The driver was killed, and the juvenile passenger was ejected as a result of the crash. Neither the driver or the juvenile were wearing their seatbelts.

Sutherland said that this collision occurred on South Lake Drive near Bluefield Road. The Lexington County Fire Service and EMS responded to the scene at the time of the crash. Law enforcement officers closed South Lake Drive near Bluefield on one end and at Bethany Church Road on the other. Motorist reported that at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, the road was stilled being blocked by troopers as their investigators worked the scene.


The person who died in the crash has not been identified. This will happen only after Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office has made notification to the next of kin.


The collision remains under investigation by the SCHP.
