South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) 12/11/2020 - A home near South Congaree was damaged by fire just before 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening. The home is off Phillips Drive which runs off Princeton Road west of the town’s limit behind County Towing in a normally quiet manufactured home community. Firefighters from a number of Lexington County fire stations responded to the fire that was reported to be in the 100 block of the dead end street.
The first due fire truck was on the scene quickly. After an initial assessment, the crews began to advance their hoses and attack the flames. There was a fire hydrant at Edmund Highway and Princeton Road, but it was located too far away from the home to realistically stretch a supply hose to the fire scene. It was set up to refill trucks’ water tanks that were supplying the attack engine. Additional water tanker trucks were requested as more manpower and resources arrived on the scene.
Lexington County EMS responded with an ambulance for safety. Law enforcement officers were also there assisting with scene security. The home’s utility company was requested to disconnect the electricity and did so.
The fire was reported under control quickly and was completely out about an hour after it started. Lexington County has not said if anyone was injured or if the home was occupied. They have not said if there was a family was displaced by the fire.
