Gilbert, SC 06/13/2022 (Paul Kirby) – A home was destroyed by fire in the Gilbert are of Lexington County Sunday afternoon. According to Jessica Imbimbo, a spokesperson for Lexington County, the fire was first reported at approximately 2:21 p.m. in the 100 block of Blackthorn Drive.

Imbimbo said that when the first units from Lexington County’s Fire Service arrived, they found a single-story structure that was approximately 50% involved. As firefighters pulled their hoses and began fighting the blaze, a rural water supply system using tanker trucks was established. This is often necessary in the more rural areas of the County due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area.

At the pinnacle of the fight, there were twelve fire units and thirty personnel on the fire. After the fire was extinguished, the American Red Cross was called for the 2 adults and 2 children who were displaced. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
