Pelion, SC 02/01/2022 (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home was destroyed by fire in the Pelion area of Lexington County Tuesday morning. The fire, reported to be on Sandra Drive in the Palmetto Ranchettes neighborhood, was reported around 6:10 a.m. When the first fire trucks from Lexington County arrived, they reported that the home was fully ingulfed in fire.
For a few moments, the fire crews had difficulty reaching the home with their hoses because of the condition of the driveway. Once they did get lines to the scene and start applying water, they had to rely on multiple tanker trucks to shuttle water from a fire hydrant on Old Charleston Road near the Lexington County Airport. As in every rural water operation such as this, it drains manpower available to fight the fire because so many crew members are assigned to drive the tanker trucks instead of pitching in on the fire ground. Because of the intensity of the fire when teams arrived, it took some time to bring the blaze under control.
After the fire was under control, crews spent a great deal of time digging through the collapsed home looking for areas of hidden fire. The last personnel from Lexington County left the scene several hours later.
According to Jessica Imbimbo, spokesperson for Lexington County, no one was injured as a result of this fire.
