Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) - Firefighters from Lexington County quickly extinguished a fire in the 1200 block of Misty Harbor Road near Chapin early Tuesday morning. Misty Harbor is off Lake Tide Drive which runs off Amick’s Ferry Road.
The call for service came in at approximately 5:44 a.m. bringing firefighters and equipment from all three of Lexington County’s Chapin area fire stations and some from adjoining counties. The first crew to arrive found a home near Lake
Murray with little indications it was on fire from the outside. The home’s occupant who called 911 had informed dispatchers the home was filling with smoke. When the firefighters entered, they confirmed there was a fire in a wall near the home’s fireplace. At that point, the fire crews classified it as a working fire.
Firefighters opened the walls and ensured that the fire had not spread into other parts of the home. The fire was quickly extinguished and some of the equipment that was still enroute was released before they arrived. After all the embers were out, crews used mechanical equipment to remove the lingering smoke from the house.
No damage estimates have been released.
