Swansea, SC – 03/14/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County firefighters were dispatched to a home that was reported to be on fire off Haas Lucas Road Saturday afternoon. When they arrived, they found the structure was already well involved in fire.
Haas Lucas Road is located between the communities of Gaston, Swansea, and Sharpe’s Hill in southern Lexington County. It runs between Fallaw and Sharpe’s Hill Roads in a rural area.
As more equipment and manpower arrived at the fire, crews pulled their hoses and went on the offense to fight the blaze. While this was happening, others were working to ensure that a sustainable water supply was established.
The battalion chief arrived on scene and he established a command structure. As more supervising officers arrived, a safety officer was appointed to make sure the scene and firefighters were safe during the operation.
Within a short period, the crews brought the fire under control. It took some additional time to make sure the fire was completely out before all Lexington County personnel and equipment could leave the scene.
There were no serious injuries reported but the home was made uninhabitable by the fire. The cause of the blaze has not been released by Lexington County.
