West Columbia, SC Paul Kirby- Firefighters from the Lexington County Fire Service and the City of West Columbia Fire Department were assisted by a crew from the Cayce Department of Public Safety at a reported structure fire Thursday morning. The caller reported that the fire was in the 100 block of Pinecrest Avenue off Augusta Road near the Popeye’s fried chicken restaurant and the Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse close to the city limits of West Columbia.

Last Saturday, firefighters from Lexington County and the City of West Columbia fought a structure fire off Pinecrest Drive. That fire was reported by multiple callers who said a structure was fully engulfed in flames before the first fire trucks arrived. Pinecrest Drive is off Pinecrest Avenue and firefighters used the same fire hydrant for water supply Saturday that they utilized Thursday to refill their tanks.

While responding to last Saturday's structure fire, crews from Lexington County advised others that they saw a large column of black smoke in the sky before arriving on scene. It seemed like of deja vu Thursday when crews once again reported black smoke in the sky before arriving at the fire. Saturday's fire destroyed the structure it was burning. When the first truck arrived on Thursday, its crew chief reported they encountered an outbuilding with a lean to shed attached that was once again fully involved in fire.

Thursday's fire took a considerably shorter amount of time to extinguish. Crews quickly pulled a fire hose, attacked the flames, and quickly brought the fire under control. The crew from the city of Cayce was released about the time they pulled up. Some equipment stayed a short while longer, but they also were quickly allowed to return to their quarters once the fire was completely out.

No information regarding the cause of either of the fires has been released by any fire service official. A fire marshal was on scene Thursday helping to determine what started the fire.
