Lexington County, SC 01/22/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters across Lexington County were busy during the freezing snap we experienced over the weekend. The cold weather caused residents to use space heaters improperly and mechanical systems were stretched to their limits.
Several of these house fires were in the Irmo Fire District’s response area. Early Sunday morning, all IFD units responded to an early morning house fire on Firebranch St. near Bush River Rd. Fire crews battled freezing temperatures while extinguishing the fire. The blaze was brought under control in less than an hour.
The occupants of the home were displaced but escaped without harm. Columbia Fire Department (SC), Lexington County Fire Service, and West Columbia Fire Department provided assistance with this fire.
Sunday afternoon, they responded to a house fire on Fallsbury in the Friarsgate Subdivision. Crews found smoke and fire were visible upon arrival. One minor injury was reported. The fire was under control in about 45 minutes. The Columbia Fire Department and Lexington County Fire Service assisted here.
