Former city employee elected councilman after recount

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) - Former city employee Tim James was declared the winner of a special election held to fill the City of Cayce’s Council District One seat Thursday. James is well known in the city of Cayce where he grew up and began a long career in public service many years ago.

James went to work for the Cayce Department of Public Safety where he began his professional life in law enforcement. His work in the city propelled him to a career at the Lexington County Sheriff's Department where he was the assistant sheriff. He later worked at the Lexington Medical Center where he served as the director of their Public Safety Department and later led the Lexington Medical Center foundation.  James is currently the president and CEO of the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. His campaign centered around his many years of public service and used the tagline, “Experience Matters.”

After the recount was completed and James was declared the winner he said, “The campaign was proven successful by the large turnout by our voters. This speaks to the passion our citizens have for our beautiful city.”

James went on to say, “I am humbled to have been given the responsibility to serve you as your District 1 Council member. During the special election campaign, I had the opportunity to hear the voices of many of our citizens; and now that I have been elected, I will move forward to address the pleas you have shared. Please know that I eagerly wish to remain in contact with you and ask that you call upon me via phone or email with your needs."
