Former deputy arrested after incident that took place last August

Lexington, SC 12/12/2022 - State Law Enforcement Division agents arrested a former Lexington County deputy Monday in connection with two charges stemming from an off-duty incident last summer.

Kyle Richard Sullivan, 35, is charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, and malicious injury to property, according to arrest warrants.

"When I became aware of Mr. Sullivan's actions, I started the process to terminate him and asked SLED to review the incident," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. "Deputies must be held accountable when it comes to their interactions with the public - whether on duty or off."

Sullivan presented a firearm to a woman and a witness the evening of Aug. 10 during an off-duty encounter in the 5500 block of Platt Spring Road, according to the warrants.

He also shattered the passenger-side window of an SUV by hitting it with his hand, according to the warrants.

Koon terminated Sullivan Aug. 11.

"Law enforcement has to maintain a trust with the community," Koon said. "We can't tolerate those who do anything to break that trust."

Sullivan, a Lexington resident who formerly served as a patrol deputy, turned himself in Monday morning and was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
