Batesburg-Leesville, SC – 05/08/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A former member of Lexington County School District Three’s School Board has been arrested in Greenwood County after being accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a minor. The Reverend Moses Leon Drafts, 47, was taken into custody on Thursday and booked into the Greenwood County Detention Center after a young woman’s mother made the accusations.
According to the incident report, the teen’ mother contacted the law enforcement officers in Greenwood County, SC. She told investigators that her daughter had been in a relationship with Drafts who was the pastor of their church. The young woman said that the relationship with Drafts started when she was approximately 15 years old. The relationship allegedly continued until she was 18.
In a statement released by Lexington District Three, District Communications Director MacKenzie Taylor said that Rev. Leon Drafts was elected to the Lexington County School District Three Board of Trustees in 2008 and served until April 22, 2021. At that time, the Lexington Three Board of Trustees accepted his letter of resignation during a scheduled 2021-2022 budget work session.
Drafts, of Batesburg, has been charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and criminal solicitation of a minor, according to law enforcement. He was being held on a $50,000 bond.
