Lexington County, SC 04/05/2022 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County School Districts One, Two, and Three, and Lexington/Richland District Five have all announced they will close early today, Tuesday, April 5, 2022, due to predicted severe weather squalls. The district with the earliest start at this point is Lexington School District Two in the Cayce/West Columbia areas. They will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the other districts will follow close behind. The goal is to have all students and district bus drivers off their school busses and home safely prior to the arrival of the storms. The severe weather is predicted to strike after 2:00 p.m. when most districts would have their busses on area roads in the middle of routes ferrying students home.
School busses come from their various manufacturers with a specific wind range that they can safely operated within. When wind speeds or gust exceed this range, they are susceptible to tipping over like any other high sided commercial vehicles. Because today’s storms are predicted to produce strong winds and, in some cases, tornadic activity, this call was made.
For the exact release time for your student from each district and grade level, check your email, text messages, or your district’s website. If you do not have access to this technology, call your child’s school.
