Gaston, SC 07/16/2022 (Paul Kirby) - On June 8, 2022, the Gaston Coaches Pitch All-stars won the District IV Tournament after going 4-0. This won the boys an invitation to the DYB State Championship Tournament. That began on July the 8th, 2022.

After losing their first game, the Gaston boys battled back through five more games, winning all of them. This dynamic performance won them the DYB State Championship on July 12th, 2022!

Now, the Gaston boys will travel to Dothan, Alabama to represent the State of South Carolina on July 28th, 2022, in the DYB World Series. The Gaston boys will open against North Carolina and Florida.

In order to get the team to the National Tournament, the Gaston team is working to raise funds to help with lodging and travel expenses for each player. There has been a GoFundMe account set up to help collect the money necessary for the trip. You can find that page at the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/sc-aa-allstars-2022

Their trip through District and State tournaments was very impressive. They compiled a record of nine wins and one loss with 149 runs. They only allowed 58 runs against them. Out of the nine wins, five of those were by the run rule. These boys, ages 7-9, certainly worked hard and played their hearts out. It is obvious in looking at their record this season how much talent this team has on it.

During their Allstar journey, the Gaston boys broke numerous records. Those include:

Local records:

· First team under 12 to win district title.

· First team under 12 to win 2+ games at state.

· First team under 12 to win state title.

State records:

  • Most runs scored in a single game (record was 23 in 2019, Westminster scored 25 on Saturday but the Gaston boys scored 28 runs in a single game).

  • Most runs scored in a state tournament. The previous record was 77, Gaston scored 92.

State statistics are still being compiled so there may be more records added as that task is finished.

These boys, their coaches, and their families have dedicated a great deal of time and resources to making it to the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series. If there's any way you can help by donating any amount of money through their GoFundMe page, that would certainly be appreciated.
