Gaston, SC 07/09/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A home was destroyed by fire between the Town of Gaston and the Sharpe’s Hill community early Friday morning. The first call about the fire was received about 1:45 a.m. Callers told the 911 telecommunicators that the fire was in the 300 block of Kimmey Road off Fish Hatchery Road near Rapha’ Residential Care.

When the first fire truck arrived, that engine’s senior man reported that they had a home that was totally engulfed in flames. There were some problems accessing the fire because of the condition of the drive. When crews were able to get into place, they set up for a long fight and began to pour water on the home. During the initial attack, more trucks and manpower was arriving from across the region.

Personnel and equipment from many of the south region’s fire stations were assisting with this fire fight. Some of these included resources from the Sharpe’s Hill, Gaston, Swansea, South Congaree, Industrial Park, Edmund, and Pelion stations. A crew from Lexington County’s EMS also was on the scene along with deputies from the sheriff’s department to assist the firefighters if needed.

The fire was brought under control just before 5:30 a.m. according to dispatch records. Most of the trucks and manpower had left or were leaving the scene after shortly after daybreak.

According to Jessica Imbimbo, spokesperson for Lexington County, two people who resided in the home were displaced because of the fire. She said that no civilians or Lexington County personnel were injured during this emergency.

Lexington County officials have not said how the fire started. The home is being considered a total loss.
