Home in the heart of the Irmo Fire District destroyed by fire Sunday morning

Irmo, SC 06/03/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Crews from the Irmo Fire District responded to an early morning structure fire in the 200 block of Zephyr Street between Bush River Road and the Saluda River Sunday morning. They were assisted by equipment and manpower from the Lexington County Fire Service, the City of Columbia Fire Department, and the City of West Columbia Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, they faced heavy smoke and flames shooting from the home. They went into a defensive mode and were able to hold the fire to its original home of origin. They had a gas leak at the home that was exacerbated by a melted gas meter that made it difficult to shut off.

The house was destroyed by the fire although no one was hurt as a result of the blaze.
