House damaged by fire on Bush Street in West Columbia Wednesday afternoon

West Columbia, SC 06/15/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A single-family home located in the 700 block of Bush Street off Double Branch Road in the City of West Columbia was heavily damaged by fire Wednesday afternoon. The fire was reported just before 1:30 p.m. and firefighters from the City of West Columbia, Lexington County, and the City of Cayce responded and assisted in bringing the blaze under control.

The first due fire crews reported they had smoke coming from the home on arrival. Some of the first teams attacked the fire while others began to search the home in case anyone was trapped inside. There was a fire hydrant in proximity to the scene and a supply line was dropped in from that to establish a reliable fire flow. With all the crews working seamlessly, the fire was brought under control quickly.

At one point early into the fire, the tri-plex power line broke away from the structure and was on the ground live in the back yard. A safety zone was set up around that and Dominion Energy was notified to send someone to disconnect and deenergize the line. No one was reported to have been hurt fighting the fire.

West Columbia’s Fire Department had its fire marshals on the scene after the fire was out investigating the cause of the blaze. The results of their investigation has noy been released.
