Individual dies after being involved in a collision on January 7, 2024

Lexington, SC 01/29/2024 (Paul Kirby) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is reporting that a person has died recently after being involved in a collision on January 7 of this year. Master Trooper William Bennett said that the person who was in the collision passed away at Prisma Hospital Richland on January 25, 2024.

According to Bennett, the individual who died was the driver of a Toyota RAV 4 that had been previously involved in a collision on I-26 near the 106 mm westbound in the St. Andrews area of Lexington County. The driver was the only person in that car when it crashed. The Toyota had been hit in the previous collision that had turned it around backward facing oncoming traffic. That’s when it was struck head-on by another vehicle. The driver of the RAV 4 was transported to Prisma Richland where they died on January 25. The 2 occupants of the other vehicle were transported to Prisma’s Parkridge and later released.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has not yet released the identity of the person who died.
