St. Andrews, SC 03/22/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the Irmo Fire District, assisted by crews from the City of West Columbia Fire Department, the Columbia Fire Department, and the Lexington County Fire Service, battled a 2-alarm fire in a vacant apartment building fire on Thursday, March 21, 2024. This fire was in the 200 block of Berryhill Road in the St. Andrews Road area of the county.
While the Irmo trucks were still enroute, another unit arrived and transmitted a 2nd alarm. When Irmo’s units pulled in, they had heavy smoke and flames coming out of roof. Crews quickly raised the ladder and tower trucks and began flowing water down on the fire from above. It took approximately 2 hours to bring the fire under control. Units remained on the scene after daybreak to make sure the fire was completely out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
