Irmo, SC 02/14/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Investigators with the Irmo Police Department, assisted by personnel from other Midland’s law enforcement agencies, are investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon shortly before 4:00 p.m. As soon as the call for assistance was received, Lexington County’s Emergency 911 Center dispatched police, EMS, and trucks and first responder personnel from the Irmo Fire District to the scene as soo as they received the call for help. They gave the address of the entire center itself but did not add the suite letter or number that would identify exactly which business in the multi-occupancy center was involved.
When fire and EMS arrived, police officers had already closed access to the entire center and were limiting entrance and departures from the parking area located at the corner of St. Andrews Road and Lake Murray Boulevard. At that point, the situation was unfolding very fast. An EMS crew was quickly led to the shooting victim. After checking that individual, they reported that they were dealing with a death and requested that Coroner Fisher’s team be notified and respond to join the other police agencies on scene.
The police also broadcast the description of distinctive car to law enforcement agencies, and responders from fire and EMS that were still enroute to the emergency. That BOLO, or be on the lookout broadcast, included the fact that the occupant or occupants of the vehicle should be considered armed and dangerous. As of 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, the police have not yet released the description of the vehicle to the public, and we are respecting that decision and will not release its description until given the okay to do so by investigators.
This investigation is still in its early phases and all police have said is that they believe it was an isolated incident, meaning that the victim was not targeted randomly, and asked that people avoid the area. We will continue to follow this investigation and update as we learn more.
