Cayce, SC – 04/06/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The SC Law Enforcement Officers’ Association along with the SC Police Chiefs’ Association recently announced that John “J.J.” Jones has been appointed as the new executive director of SCLEOA and the SCPCA. Jones has been the assistant director of the Department of Public Safety with the City of Cayce for more than a year.
Jones began his law enforcement career in 1995. In 1997, he moved to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department where he stayed for the next 22-years. While there, he worked in Warrant Services, Community Services, Narcotics, the K-9 Unit, was on the SWAT Team, worked as a patrol sergeant, assistant region commander, in Internal Affairs, and as the operations commander. Once Sheriff Jay Koon was appointed and then elected, Jones became the operations major for the department.
He has won numerous awards, commendations, and accolades. He has been decorated 22 times to include two Life Savings Awards, the Medal of Valor, and in 2008, Jones was named the SC Sheriffs’ Association Deputy of the Year. Jones is also a graduate of the National FBI Academy.
Since becoming Cayce’s assistant director of the Department of Public Safety, he has attended the SC Fire Academy where he was trained in firefighting. During that training, he was awarded the Order of the Maltese for his leadership ability.
When contacted for comment after he was selected to this new position Jones said, “My family and I are excited about this awesome opportunity to represent the law enforcement officers and police chiefs in our state. I am humbled by this opportunity and am going to lean on my law enforcement leaders that have supported us in the past. It is bittersweet, however, leaving the awesome support I have come to enjoy at the Cayce Department of Public Safety.”
Chief Jones has been married to his wife Laura Rawls Jones for 19 years. The couple have one son, Jacob Price Jones.
Jones’ first day at the SCLEOA and the SCPCA will be May 17, 2021.
