Lexington, SC 06/27/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Law enforcement officers with the Lexington Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in the 100 block of Freedom Dr. near Walter Hutto Court late Sunday afternoon. Lexington County's Emergency Communications Center received the first call about this shooting shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27th.
Although it is very early in the investigative process, preliminary reports indicate that the victim was shot multiple times after being involved in an altercation. One bystander said that appeared as if someone was laying in the yard of a home after they heard multiple shots ring out.
Investigator were arriving on the scene shortly after 5:15 p.m. Sunday. A crime scene had been established and technicians were beginning to process the area. Other officers were interviewing potential witnesses.
First responders and EMS personnel arrived shortly after police but were cleared from the scene quickly. Officials have said that one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Our sources have said this doesn’t appear to be a random act of violence and early indications are that the shooter and the victim were well acquainted.
Later in the evening, Chief Terrance Green of the Lexington Police Department said that there was no danger to the general public after this shooting. He said that his department was being assisted by SLED and Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher's office in this investigation.
