Lake Murray, SC 10/26/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Officers with the SC Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department are currently searching the waters of Lake Murray for a boater that was reported missing. According to David Lucas, a spokesman for SCDNR, they began assisting the sheriff’s department early this morning after a call was received that a boater that had not returned from a trip out on the lake during the early morning hours of Tuesday.
According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, David Grantham left his home sometime overnight. He boarded his pontoon boat at a marina off US Highway 378 at about 3:00 a.m. and drove off into the darkness. When Grantham did not return later in the morning and concerned loved ones couldn’t reach him, they called to report him missing.
Officer Lucas said that while assisting in the search, their officers found Grantham’s boat washed up near Spence’s Island and the Lands’ End condominiums about 11:30 a.m. Since that time, officers from both agencies have been searching the waters of the lake by boat and air in hopes that Grantham was just stranded somewhere. As of mid-afternoon, Grantham had not been located.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is asking any citizen that saw or has seen Grantham during the period in question to please call Detective Hart at 803-862-7667.
