Letter to the Editor: I support Congressman Joe Wilson for re-election at this crucial time

Dear Editor:

I support Congressman Joe Wilson for re-election at this crucial time for several reasons. His support for the military is commendable. Having served in the military himself, he has a unique perspective, which makes him an asset on the House Armed Services Committee, and in that role he has been able to get through several important pieces of legislation, including the National Defense Authorization Act, which in itself contained such bills as the Body Armor for Females Modernization Act and the Military Surviving Spouses Equity Act. With all of the uncertainty and chaos, not only here, but around the world, it is important now more than ever that we have leaders who will fight to ensure our military personnel and their families have the resources physically, spiritually, and emotionally that they need to get the job done.

Throughout his time in Congress, he has been instrumental in bring jobs to the 2nd District and our state. He helped to get passed through Congress the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which reduced the tax burden on small businesses, encouraging them to grow and expand, hiring more employees along the way. He continues to support bills that help keep SC a right-to-work state.

Most importantly to me, though, is that Congressman Wilson is pro-life and has a consistent record of supporting legislation that would protect the life of the unborn and the taxpayers who do not want their tax dollars funding domestic and international abortions. He is a member of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus and has recently worked with other members to pass pro-life legislation like the Born-Alive Abortion Survivor Protections Act, which would give a child the same right to life if he/she was born alive following an abortion.

For these reasons, among others, I support the re-election of Congressman Joe Wilson to represent the 2nd district of SC in the US House of Representatives.

Sincerely,

Cindy Moorer

Columbia, SC
