Lexington Co. Fire Service, EMS, & Sheriff’s Dept. responds to explosion at Red Bank business Sunday

Red Bank, SC 04/03/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A small explosion at a business on Litton Drive in the Red Bank area of the county drew a response from the Lexington County Fire Service, EMS, and Sheriff’s Department Sunday afternoon. The request for assistance first came into the County’s 911 Emergency Center at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023. Litton Drive is off Two Notch Road within a block of South Lake Drive.

First arriving firefighters found that the explosion had caused, “superficial,” injuries due to shrapnel from one person’s face. Another person appeared to be shaken up and the fire crew asked that EMS check that person out as well. All injuries were described as minor and non-life-threatening. Lexington County has not said how much damage had been done to the structure, however the firefighters were able to clear the scene quickly. A customer who went by the business Monday morning said that there was a note posted indicating they would be closed for the day.

Because this was confirmed to be an explosion, the investigation into the cause of the incident was turned over to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Monday afternoon, Captain Adam Myrick, spokesman for Lexington County Sheriff's Department, said that the explosion was not a result of any intentional of illegal activity.
