Lexington County Coroner Fisher identifies man killed in wrong way crash on I-20 last week

Lexington, SC 05/12/2025 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has positively identified the man who died in a two-vehicle accident near the 39 mile-marker of Interstate 20 eastbound last week. This is in the Samaria and the Fairview area Lexington County.
According to Coroner Fisher, Tyrese Antwan Thomas, 26, of West Columbia was traveling westbound on I-20 in the eastbound lanes when he struck a tractor trailer traveling eastbound on I-20. Thomas, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
