Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identifies the victim of car crashes on deadly Tuesday on Lexington County Roads

Lexington, SC 08/22/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the identities of the 3 people who died in separate Lexington County vehicle collisions on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. The crashes occurred at the intersection of Olde Farm Road and Augusta Highway in mid-afternoon, and in the 200 block of Kyzer Road later that night.

 

According to Mrs. Fisher, in the first collision, Mrs. Lelar Mae Dunn, 69, of Batesburg was the passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on Augusta Highway about 2:30 p.m. when a southbound car attempted to turn onto Olde Farm Road causing the 2 to collide. Mrs. Dunn was the only person who died in that crash. The driver of the car she was riding in was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The 2 occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.

In the second collision, a Suzuki motorcycle with a passenger on it was travelling westbound on Kyzer Road in the White Knoll area later Tuesday night. At the same time, Mr. Kevin Scott “Beaufort” Collins, 63, a retired Lexington County firefighter, was crossing Kyzer Road after checking his mailbox. Mr. Collins was struck by James Leonard Ely III, 17, of Lexington who was traveling westbound on a motorcycle. Mr. Collins was pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries sustained in the accident. Mr. Ely, who was wearing a helmet, was also pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries sustained in the accident. A passenger on Mr. Ely’s motorcycle was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

 

Both collisions are being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol and Coroner Fisher’s office.
