Lexington, SC 10/11/2022 - The Lexington County Fire Service said today that they were proud to recognize Fire Chief Mark Davis who was presented with the 2022 Fritz Turner Award from the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs. On October 8, 2022, Chief Davis was presented this award for outstanding leadership in the State of South Carolina.
Chief Davis’ vision and leadership have progressed LCFS by more than a decade in his short tenure as our Chief. He has increased our staffing level and our structure to allow for a safer, more efficient fire ground with the proper span of control and supervision of suppression personnel. He has established a fiscally sound budget to allow LCFS to expand upon a multitude of capital projects, training, and equipment which directly improves service delivery to the customer. He has secured more than $15 million in outside funding in 2022 to increase the capabilities of the LCFS without a tax increase to the citizens.
“Chief Davis’ love and care for all first responders is evident and many have heard him talk about his experiences at a conference. But most have not seen up close his dedication to the members who he serves at LCFS as we have,” wrote a spokesperson with Lexington County. Chief Davis experienced a Line of Duty Death at LCFS during his first year as chief. He carefully and lovingly guided this organization through this tragic time with great care, concern, and strength. Not only has he shown leadership during a departmental tragedy, but he has also been a rock during injuries and life-changing events. These events have occurred to his personnel both on and off duty, and during each one of these, Chief Davis has dedicated countless hours at the hospital being a companion for his team members and their family.
