Lexington County firefighters battle house fire near Town of Pelion

Pelion, SC 03/29/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County firefighters battled a fire that heavily damaged a home west of the Town of Pelion in the 2700 block of Pine Street (SC Hwy 302) Tuesday afternoon. The fire was first reported around 1:00 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home. There were several cars in the yard upon arrival of the first due fire engines causing the crews to worry that someone might be trapped in the home. Upon completing a thorough search, it was discovered that the occupants were actually away at the time of the fire.

Firefighters had to use their water tanks to supply water to fight the fire because the closest fire hydrant was some distance away. Despite this challenge, the fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes.

The home was heavily damaged but no injuries were reported.
