Leesville, SC 12/23/2021(Paul Kirby) – Lexington County firefighters were assisted by others from the Town of Batesburg-Leesville as they collectively battled a fire in the 500 block of Hallman Wagon Road just before 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night. When crews arrived, they found a residential structure that had heavy fire already deeply entrenched in the home’s construction that was quickly consuming it.
According to Jessica Imbimbo, a spokesperson for Lexington County, it took 20 combined units from both Lexington County and the Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department, and approximately 35 firefighters to extinguish the fire. As is often the case in these rural areas, water supply was an issues and extra trucks had to be brought into service to carry water.
Due to the conditions found in the home when the crews arrived, it took about 6 hours for them to extinguish the fire according to Imbimbo. In the end, the home was a total loss.
Three firefighters with minor injuries treated on scene and released. No civilians were injured.
