White Knoll, SC 10/07/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the Lexington County Fire Service fought a house that was burning on Pepper Harrow Lane off Siddington Way in the White Knoll area of Lexington County Friday afternoon. The fire was reported shortly after 2:00 p.m. and crews from many of Lexington County’s fire stations in the central and south-central portions of the county responded to the fire.
The first teams to arrive at the fire reported that there was heavy smoke pushing from the eaves of the home. They began to set up for fire attack while others began a primary search of the structure to ensure no one was trapped inside. There were concerns about several pets that were said to be in the home however, the fire crews were advised that a neighbor had removed those prior to the arrival of the firefighters.
There was a fire hydrant in proximity to the burning house which provided a safe and reliable flow of water to feed the trucks and teams. Although there was a great deal of fire equipment on scene, most of that was parked and the teams that drove and rode those in were placed in rotation to work on the numerous task that were underway during the height of the fight. Eventually, trucks and firefighters from stations not committed to the fire were moved into some of the empty stations for standby.
The fire was brought under control in about an hour, but it took more time to finish with the salvage and overhaul phases and reloading the trucks so that everyone could return to their stations.
Lexington County hasn’t released any estimate as to the extent of the damages of the home. They also have not said what they believe started the fire.
