Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher and investigators with the Lexington Police Department are excavating a backyard in the Earlwood area of the City of Columbia according to a reader of The Lexington Ledger who called shortly after noon Tuesday. She said that agents from the SC Law Enforcement Division also appeared to be on the scene.

According to the caller whose mother lives in Lexington County, she said it was surprising to see law enforcement vehicles from Lexington County deep inside the City of Columbia. She later said the officers appeared to be with the Town of Lexington Police Department. Their presence has been confirmed by a law enforcement official.
The digging is going on off Wallace Street not from the intersection of Elmwood and Bull Streets. The woman said it appeared as if the officers were clearing away dirt. “They have a tent kind of like a tailgating thing put up in the yard of a house. It’s pretty obvious they are digging for something buried under the ground.” She went on to say that she was able to pick out Coroner Fisher because she had seen pictures of her before.
We have emailed a spokesman for the Lexington Police Department and are waiting to get more information on this.
