Lexington, SC 01/20/2021 - Lexington County Public Library (LCPL) continuously makes changes to better serve the community. Patrons asked for longer loan periods on borrowed items and we listened. Beginning February 1, all physical materials will have a three-week loan period. This includes books, audiobooks, Playaways, DVDs and magazines. Loan periods on digital downloads through Libby/Overdrive, Hoopla and RB Digital will still have a two-week loan period.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began, loan periods on physical items were temporarily increased to six weeks. Although we’re now switching to a shorter period of three weeks, this is still an increase from the original two-week loan period for books and one-week loan period for magazines and DVDs. Overall, this will give patrons more time to read, watch and listen.
Moving away from the temporary six-week checkout period will also help expedite hold requests and allow staff to fill them quicker. Materials will still be quarantined and cleaned as needed for everyone’s safety but wait times for hold requests will essentially be cut in half, allowing patrons to get the materials they want and need faster.
Even though loan periods are changing, late fines and fees are still being waived. Patrons will not receive charges for overdue items at this time.
With these updates, now would be a great time to switch out your current reads for a few new titles to finish filling in your winter reading Bingo card. All completed cards must be turned in for a chance to win the grand prize — a winter survival kit full of goodies and essentials to get you through these chilly winter months. Entries must be turned in to your local branch by Monday, February 1.
