UPDATE: Lexington County Sheriff's Department investigating death along I-20

Lexington, SC (Diana Nation) - The Lexington County Sheriff's Department is in the early stages of a death investigation at a former rest area off of interstate 20 Westbound. This is between the 48 and 49 mile-markers off the westbound lanes.

According to LCSD spokesman Captain Adam Myrick, a man's body was discovered at the edge of the wood line within the old SCDOT rest stop once used by truckers. Myrick said that a state trooper made the discovery during a routine check of the property. Because the troopers check this area regularly, officials know that the body was placed or left there sometime between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning when it was discovered.

Wednesday, Major Crimes detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were on the scene, as well as other law enforcement officials. They were collecting evidence that might help them identify the man. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher also had personnel there Wednesday as they worked to determine the cause and manner of death.
