Lexington investigators on the scene of an apparent homicide

Lexington, SC (12/03/2020) Chief Terrence Green of the Town of Lexington Police Department said Thursday night that a shooting death in the town is being investigated by the Lexington Police Department, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Coroner's Office.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West Main Street for a shooting that had just occurred. This is in an area behind the closed K-Mart store across the street from LMC's Urgent Care in the town. According to Sgt. Cameron Mortenson of the Lexington Police Department, the actual shooting was close to the fence and wood line in that area. Upon arrival, officers found a woman, age 72 of Gilbert, with a gunshot wound to her face. Officers immediately began rendering aid until Lexington County EMS arrived.


The woman passed away while being transported to the hospital.

Officers found a man, age 49 of Lexington, at the scene with a handgun. He was taken into investigative detention and is being interviewed by detectives.


A witness at the scene stated that the shooting had occurred during an argument.
